Our Omicron Mu chapter of Chi Omega has raised over $350,000 for the charity since our founding in 2008, allowing us to adopt over 42 wishes! Every year, Cal Poly's Chi Omega hosts our annual mock casino night, Chi O Casino, on Cal Poly's campus.
An Alpha Omicron Pi at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. In the Chi Psi Chapter, we strive to continually Inspire Ambition by fostering our love of service, scholarship, and leadership. We aim to create strong bonds of sisterhood by becoming women who value and savor lifelong friendships.
Founding Omicron Mu Chi Omega began on the Cal Poly Campus in February 2008. There were over 250 women who showed up for the recruitment and 126 bids were offered to women at Cal Poly. Since recruitment, we have been busy establishing ourselves on the Cal Poly campus and making a strong name for ourselves.
Baker says Greek life has been 'an amazing experience so far.'
If you're still on the fence about going Greek, let Cal Poly Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration sophomore Emily Baker help you decide, as she shares how going Greek has impacted her college experience.
Q: What made you want to become involved in Greek life?
A: I wanted to be part of Greek life because I was so used to being a part of a solid group in high school because of sport teams and different clubs. I wanted that feeling of knowing I belonged to something and having a big group of friends besides the people in my dorms.
Q: What made you choose the sorority you are in?A: During the recruitment process I had the most natural conversations with the girls in Chi Omega. I didn't feel like I had to pretend to be someone else and that they truly had a strong sisterhood.
Q: What kinds of activities do you do with your sorority?A: We do so many different types of things in Chi Omega. I've been given the opportunity to be involved in different philanthropy events, intramural sport teams, sisterhood camping retreats, as well as more low key things like pancake dinners at the house.
Q: How often/in what ways do you engage with other sororities and fraternities?A: Being part of Chi Omega, or any house, is an an amazing experience because you not only have amazing bonds with your sisters, but you are part of the whole Greek community. It is so important to keep strong relationships with everyone who is also Greek. We participate in as many different houses' philanthropy events as possible, which is about three a quarter. We have multiple exchanges with other Greek houses each quarter and we have also create intramural softball and soccer teams with other Greek houses.
Q: What do you like most about being in a sorority?A: My favorite part of being in a sorority is the frienships I have made through it. The bonds that you share with your sisters are impossible to come by anywhere else. I was not sure I was even going to rush when I came to college, but it is by far the best decision I've made coming to Cal Poly.
Q: Has being part of a sorority changed you at all?Chi O Casino Cal Poly MailersA: I have definitely grown since being part of the Greek community. I haven't changed who I was but I have just enhanced it. I have gained better leadership skills and have made myself become a lot more involved.
Q: How has being in a sorority affected your college experience?A: My college experience would have been nothing like it is today if I wasn't part of a sorority. I would not of met nearly as many people or have become nearly as involved as I am now. I can't imagine my life without Chi Omega or the sisters that I have now.

Q: What would you say to Cal Poly students who are unsure of whether or not they want to join Greek life?A: I would encourage anyone to rush even if they are a little hesitant. The best thing they can do is at least go through the process and formulate their own opinions. Greek life can have a bad reputation around it and some people have even compared joining Greek life to 'buying friends.' There is so much more to Greek life than what outsiders believe, and it is almost impossible to find anyone who is a part of it that regrets it.
Q: Is there anything you don't like about Greek life?A: The only thing I don't like about Greek life is the false stereotypes of sorority girls and fraternity guys.
Q: Does being involved in a sorority affect the time you have to focus on school?A: Being Greek is a time commitment but scholarship is always a priority. Getting good grades is highly stressed and being Greek has actually helped my schoolwork rather than hurt it. I have been able to go to study groups that Chi Omega has put on for us as well as going to scholarship seminars on time management and note taking skills.
Q: What is your favorite thing that you've done with your sorority?A: My favorite thing I have done with Chi Omega is Chi O Casino. It is our big philanthropy event for Make A Wish Foundation. We put on a casino night and all the girls learn how to become dealers for games like poker, black jack, and roulette. The whole community comes out to it, and this past year we raised $10,000 which gave us the opportunity to grant two wishes.
Q: Is there anything about Greek life that most people might not know about?A: A lot of people hear Greek life and automatically assume that it has something to do with partying. That is not true at all. Greek life has so many different opportunities for people to get involved in different areas and can really help you after graduation in the work field.
Q: Do you think that the cost of being in a sorority is a fair price?A: I think that the cost is worth it. You are able to get so much out of it, and compared to other schools Cal Poly's sorority fees really aren't that expensive.
Q: In what ways do you think that being in a sorority will benefit you in your future?A: Being part of Greek life really does benefit you after college. It is very common to hear of people being hired because of their Greek affiliation. It also helps you develop better leadership and time management skills, and gets you accustomed to having to work with large groups of people.
Q: Anything else you can think to share about Greek life?A: Greek life is something I am so proud to say that I am a part of and has been an amazing experience for me so far. GO GREEK!
A video posted on Instagram this weekend is sparking controversy at Cal Poly. 
In the video, roughly 50-60 college-aged kids are shown huddling together and not wearing masks, all things the university and health officials have advised against during the pandemic.
Cal Poly officials are now trying to track down the people shown in the video to find out whether any are enrolled at the university.

Cal Poly Vice President of Student Affairs Keith Humphrey says he was disappointed and disturbed when he first saw the video. 
'Whoever they were, If they were Cal Poly students or if they were other folks, they were definitely not looking out for the greater good of public health in San Luis Obispo,' Humphrey said. 
Conley Armstrong was visiting from out of town over the weekend. He says he was down at Pirates Cove, but decided to go back to his car because of the crowd.
'Mostly college-aged kids. There were a couple of older people but it was a lot of college-aged people from around the area,' Armstrong said. 'I'm surprised if we don't get a corona outbreak. It's shocking if we don't.'

Chi O Casino Cal Poly SloHumphrey says the search is on for who took the video, and for those in the video as well.

'We want to make sure those individuals are safe, and they understand the negative implications of their actions.'
